About the School of Leadership, Afghanistan (SOLA)
The School of Leadership, Afghanistan (SOLA) is an Afghan-led boarding school for Afghan girls, the first and only of its kind operating anywhere in the world. SOLA evacuated Afghanistan upon the Taliban’s return in 2021, resuming operations in Rwanda where we continue our mission to provide our students with a rigorous education to become members of the generation who will one day lead a peaceful and united Afghanistan.
In line with this commitment, we’re introducing SOLAx, an online educational platform. This innovative initiative aims to extend education to Afghan girls who have been deprived of schooling under the Taliban regime. The Position:
We’re seeking a seasoned Senior Backend Ruby/Rails Developer with expertise in WhatsApp API integration, automated test suites, Ruby On Rails, React.js, Postgres, Redis, and AWS. You will lead the design, development, and maintenance of the backend infrastructure for our WhatsApp powered educational chatbot, aimed at providing Afghan girls quality learning experiences.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of robust backend infrastructure using Ruby On Rails, ensuring scalability, reliability, and optimal performance.
- Oversee the integration of WhatsApp API, playing a pivotal role in shaping the core functionality of the educational chatbot.
- Work closely with fullstack developer, front-end experts, and other team members to ensure seamless integration and cohesive user experiences.
- Collaborate with content managers to align technical solutions with educational goals.
- Drive the creation and maintenance of comprehensive automated test suites to ensure software quality and rapid iteration.
- Efficiently manage data using Postgres, Redis and AWS
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science highly desirable.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Senior Backend Ruby/Rails Developer with a focus on API integrations and automated test suite development.
- Experience with React.js, Postgres, Redis, and AWS.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to technical leadership.
