As a founding member of our new Developer Acceleration team at Jobber, you’ll play a vital role in improving the developer experience which will allow our software engineers to work more efficiently. You will help remove friction in the development lifecycle and ensure that developers have smooth-running tools to do their best work productively. There will be a focus on improving developer velocity and helping build tools that will increase confidence in developer output. In this role, you will be a force multiplier!
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to a Senior Manager, Product Engineering, the Senior Developer Acceleration Engineer will work, along with the Developer Acceleration team, to build tools and systems to help developers be able to build faster and better.
The ideal candidate would have a force multiplier mindset, a supportive attitude, a challenge-seeking mentality, the ability to deal with ambiguity and the ability to learn & iterate rapidly. The ideal candidate would have experience in Developer Acceleration/Experience and have past experience in any or multiple of the following topics: automated build environments, developer tooling, observability, CI/CD pipelines optimization, and testing frameworks.
The Senior Developer Acceleration Engineer will:
- Design, implement, and automate our developer local and remote build environments.
- Build and improve the deployment process by optimizing our build automation and CI/CD pipelines, making them faster and more efficient.
- Develop and maintain observability tools and libraries to get metrics, alerts and dashboards in our observability environment (DataDog)
- Advocate and support software testing best practices
To be successful, you should have:
- A passion for Developer Experience: You have empathy for developers and love to solve problems for them.
- You have a strong software development background, with approx 5+ years of experience in software engineering, ideally with recent experience in Developer Acceleration/Experience/Productivity.
- Our development stack is Ruby on Rails, GraphQL API layer, React, React Native, and TypeScript on AWS. If you have experience with most of these technologies, that’s great. Importantly, we look for candidates who are passionate and eager to work across all layers of the stack. Openness is key!
- Excellent collaboration skills, and impeccable ability to communicate and listen to others. In this role, you will collaborate with engineers across our engineering organization
- You can navigate ambiguity/uncertainty and prioritize accordingly.
- Strong knowledge/experience with build pipelines, with tools such as Ruby Gems, NPM, Vite, Webpack
- Proven experience in building developer tools and automation
- Strong experience in building managing and optimizing CI/CD pipelines, ideally using CircleCI and/or Jenkins
- Proven experience with observability platforms, ideally Datadog
- Passion for learning, building reliability, automation, testing and continual improvements
- Knowledge of DevOps principles and/or Cloud Native approaches
- Experience and understanding of AWS cloud environments
