The role

Agile Six is looking for a DevOps Engineer for an anticipated role on cross-functional agile team supporting the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The successful candidate will be designing and developing web services and other components within an open source project and ecosystem. You must have experience implementing CI/CD systems; this role is not limited to maintenance. Our ideal candidate has significant professional experience automating the operational aspects of software development — including builds, testing, and deployments — within a modern development ecosystem that includes containers, infrastructure as code, and cloud infrastructure and services. We area searching for someone embraces open source software and an open ethos regarding software development. Responsibilities

  • Contribute as part of a cross functional Agile team to build web applications and services in an open source ecosystem
  • Design, implement, and maintain software build and deployment systems (CI/CD), to rapidly deploy and maintain cloud-based systems in an AWS environment
  • Leverage emerging technologies and practices around DevOps, cloud services, AI, automation tools, etc. where appropriate in the course of daily work to improve efficiency and/or quality
  • Write scripts, components and services using software development principles and best practices, with an eye towards reusability
  • Demonstrate strong communication and team collaboration skills
  • Demonstrate a pragmatic, proactive mindset focused on consistently delivering value to the team and customer
  • Work with a Product Owner and other team members to ensure that DevOps related work is accurately described in user stories and appropriately prioritized in sprint and product backlogs
  • Support the practice of engineering within the larger company as needed through activities such as:
    • Assisting in outreach, recruitment, and hiring efforts
    • Occasionally participating in or otherwise supporting business development efforts, including code or design challenges, writing or reviewing proposal responses, etc.
    • Participating in communities of practice
  • We expect the responsibilities of this position to shift and grow organically over time, in response to considerations such as the unique strengths and interests of the selected candidate and other team members and an evolving understanding of the delivery environment.

Basic qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer with a heavy concentration in DevOps (primary responsibilities included automating the operational aspects of development)
  • Demonstrated experience with AWS and AWS technologies
  • Experience implementing orchestration and infrastructure-as-code (IaC); Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, Github Actions
  • Understanding of DevOps best practices: CI/CD, Test Automation, Pipeline monitoring, evangelizing DevOps culture
  • Experience working on an Agile team and demonstrating an Agile mindset
  • Experience in an open-source, collaborative development environment
  • Has lived and worked in the United States for 3 out of the last 5 years

Additional desired qualifications

  • AWS Certification(s) such as Solutions Architect Pro, DevOps Engineer Pro, SysOps Admin, Developer Associate
  • Familiarity with Java, Python, and/or Ruby
  • Familiarity with testing frameworks: JUnit, Mockito, pytest
  • Experience working with government agencies
  • You are a U.S. Veteran

The salary for this position is $138,359-$145,454
