And at Diffe.rent we’re using state-of-the-art AI technology to transform the apartment renting experience, making it easier for renters and property managers to connect. As a Lead Software Engineer on the DRive team, you will be a hands-on engineering leader, ensuring efficient delivery of cross-functional projects, tech consolidation, and product initiatives.  Reporting into the Co-Founder and CTO of Diffe.rent (acquired by Apartment List in 2022), you will help build stronger internal partnerships by facilitating international collaboration on both ApartmentList and Diffe.rent AI specific initiatives.
While we are virtual first, given the importance of the collaboration with both US and Israeli based engineering teams, we are only considering candidates in the EST timezone. 
Here’s what you’ll do as part of the team:
Leadership and Management:
  • Be a facilitator of challenging projects, drive people towards action, employing analytical decision making through uncertainty
  • Manage and oversee the work of a small (to start) US-based DRive engineering team
  • Foster a collaborative environment that aligns with AL's culture and practices
  • Work closely with Diffe.rent’s CTO and AL’s engineering leader
Project and Technical Oversight:
  • Identify paths to move forward - unlock clarity
  • Lead both product initiatives and technical debt projects
  • Drive the consolidation of DRive's legacy tech stack with AL's broader R&D stack
  • Actively participate in engineering leadership forums to represent DRive’s interests and keep the DRive IL R&D leadership informed and vice versa
  • 50+% hands on work (to start)
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Push and drive action in cross functional projects with both IL and US developers 
  • Work closely with global teams, including the DRive IL engineering manager and data science lead.
  • Coordinate with AL's US-based engineering leaders to ensure alignment and effective collaboration.
Here are the skills and experience you’ll need to be successful:
  • Experience: Software engineer level 5 possessing hands-on full stack capabilities with interest or experience in management roles
    • Startup experience and mindset

    • React/NextJS
    • DB 
      • MongoDB 
      • Postgres or equivalent relational database
  • Cloud - GCP, AWS or similar
  • CI/CD - Jenkins, Github actions or similar
  • Leadership: You are a self-sufficient, natural leader that thrives in uncertainty and are able to push your agenda, align stakeholders and are simply getting things done
  • Result oriented: you think long term but want to see immediate results. You use experiments, qualitative and quantitative research to identify impactful business opportunities and establish clear action plans
  • Strong work ethic: willing to roll up your sleeves and get things done, identifying when going the extra mile is beneficial and following through
  • Ability to scope out and lead cross-functional projects
  • Experience working in scrum, agile practice
  • Advantage
    • Collaborating with Data Science teams
    • Global Team Collaboration: Experience working with international teams, with any familiarity with Israeli culture and practices being advantageous

Here's the Pay Range:
At Apartment List, we carefully consider a variety of factors to determine compensation for each position, including the role, level, and work. The US base salary range for this position is $145,000 - $210,000 + bonus + equity, which reflects the compensation target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Please note, the compensation details provided do not include benefits and perks that we offer. 
We also rely on market indicators along with considering your work location, job related skills, experience and relevant education and training, to determine compensation that is fair and competitive for you. Apartment List will consider paying compensation near the higher of the range in exceptional circumstances, where candidates have the experience, credentials or expertise that would warrant such consideration. It is always our goal to hire exceptional talent and we would be happy to share more about compensation during the hiring process.
