Software Engineer (Remote)

Published on February 20, 2024

Each year, more than 65 million Americans seek help for a mental health condition. And due to a broken and frustrating system, 2 out of 3 of those individuals give up before ever getting the help they need. We can do better. We must do better. Our team is here to do just that. Our mission is to create a world where every person can access high- quality mental health care. We recognize that mental health issues can be complex and multifaceted, and we are dedicated to treating the whole person, not just the symptoms. We’re building the future of mental health care; a comprehensive behavioral health solution that helps every person access high quality care from a licensed professional, at a time that works for them and at a cost they can afford. Our approach to care is evidence-based, outcome-driven and compassionate. We empower our exceptional provider network to track progress throughout the care journey to ensure clients achieve their full potential.

We believe that mental health is just as important as physical health. We recognize that mental health issues can be complex and multifaceted, and we are dedicated to treating the whole person, not just the symptoms.
We aim to create a world where mental health is no longer stigmatized or marginalized, but rather is embraced as an integral part of one's overall well-being.
We believe that by providing quality care that is both evidence-based and compassionate, we can empower individuals to take charge of their mental health and achieve their full potential. We are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of those struggling with mental health issues and we strive to be a force for positive change in the field of mental healthcare.
About the Role
As a member of Rula’s Engineering team, you’ll be able to focus on doing your best work and create a real impact with a team of like-minded people who waste minimal time on unnecessary overhead. While we’re looking for software engineers of all levels of seniority, we’re excited by candidates who enjoy and are capable of working on a small team with a fast-growing product. We’re looking for generalists who can work across the stack and those who gravitate towards frontend, backend, or infrastructure engineering. We recognize people are passionate about different areas and you'll have the option to be involved in as much (or as little) as you’d like.
  • Our mission at Rula is to make mental healthcare work for everyone: patients, therapists, and healthcare systems. The Money Team sits at the intersection of all of our users and is responsible for ensuring financial operations run efficiently, transparently, and without any errors for them all.
  • Healthcare finance is a complex topic with high stakes for errors. To build scalable and reliable systems in this space, we set ourselves a very high bar for engineering quality, and take pride in developing products by consistently following engineering fundamentals in automation, security, and observability each and every day.
  • We are currently a team of 3 generalists, looking to expand our team to 5. If you enjoy solving complex problems, strive to always raise the quality bar while developing software, and want to work in a collaborative environment that prioritizes the success of the team over succeeding individually, the Money Team is the right team for you.
This is a unique opportunity to help build on the foundational engineering infrastructure at a company where the business is already humming and we have thousands of users every day. If this sounds exciting and energizing, we’d love to talk!
Technical Stack
Rula’s systems are written in Typescript/Node.js or Ruby on Rails, with React frontends. We use Postgres for our databases and everything is hosted on AWS. We also make heavy use of existing tools like Salesforce, Airtable, Typeform, etc. This has enabled us to scale very quickly with a small team but we’re now ready to bring much of this work in-house. We’re standing up the technical foundation that will power the future of the company. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have experience with the specific technologies in our stack, we’d still love to connect with you!
Basic Qualifications
  • 2+ years of software engineering experience
  • Experience working on cross-functional teams
  • Experience working on time-sensitive projects, balancing multiple stakeholder’s needs

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

  • Previous involvement in developing offerings, especially cloud-based offerings, within the healthcare sector
