About this Role
We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to help grow our APIs team. The team’s mission is to implement required business logic and APIs that allow users to stake and unstake their tokens on a variety of networks. Figment offers various staking/unstaking products on the Ethereum network and a portion of our team’s responsibility lies in developing, understanding, and integrating with smart contracts on Ethereum.
We are looking for a seasoned principal engineer with a strong Ruby on Rails background and Solidity development experience. In this role, you will be responsible for different projects, leading or collaborating with other engineers on the team, participating in architectural decisions, and communicating your ideas with Product and Engineering managers.
This is a full-time remote position, for candidates in North American time zones (+1/-1). If you enjoy working on a dynamic and collaborative team with lots of opportunities to learn and drive impactful business outcomes, then this role may be a good fit for you. Ideal candidates are comfortable working in an unstructured environment, dealing with uncertainty, minimal direction, and working across a range of projects while demonstrating a strong sense of ownership.
What you will be doing
- Full technical accountability for products & processes.
- Leading initiatives end-to-end through technical design, technical roadmap, implementation, and testing.
- Contributing code as a Principal-level IC, demonstrating best practices, and setting standards for the rest of the team.
- Working closely with Product managers to clarify requirements, communicate design solutions, and set expectations.
- Work closely with our Security team to deliver the most secure software solutions we can.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members on all aspects of product development.
- Lead and refine the team’s software development processes.
- Demonstrate technical expertise in multiple domains and act as a mentor to others on the team.
What you will bring to the team
- Experience as a principal engineer on a team of more than 3 developers
- Strong Rails background and track record of successful Rails projects
- In-depth understanding of systems design and multi-service architecture
- At least one year of experience with smart contract development and defi protocols
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to own complete features and systems end-to-end - conception, breakdown, implementation, deployment
- Familiar with data storage solutions (SQL/Redis/Data warehousing)
- Passion to learn new technologies quickly and enjoy learning new things
- Strong bias towards simplicity and maintainability
- Results-oriented individual with a high EQ

Base Salary: The CAD base salary range for this position is CAD $200,000 - $220,000. The US base salary range for this position is USD $200,000 - $220,000. This range reflects base salary only, and does not include additional compensation or benefits. For candidates in other countries, the pay range will be disclosed upon your first interview with Figment (being a globally remote company, the list of salary ranges would simply be too long to note here!). The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum range for a new hire across all Canada or the US. A candidate’s specific pay within the range will be determined by various factors including job-related skills, relevant education, and training.
