Infrastructure Engineer

Files.com is a cloud storage and file logistics service with over 1,500 paying business customers, including Target, Canonical, UPS, Leica, DirecTV, GoPro, Marriott, and more.

Location: Work From Your Home on a Remote-First Team
At Files.com, we build technology so businesses can manage file transfer and security at scale. We are private equity backed, profitable, and lead our industry in terms of revenue per employee. This means that each and every team member is able to have a high degree of direct responsibility and impact.

We are a SaaS, Cloud-Based Managed File Transfer platform that enables organizations to securely transfer, share, and store files between users, teams, and organizations. Our app and API is primarily written in Ruby on Rails (though we built our own internal framework for APIs, not ActionController, and we don't use Rails views at all). We have additional backend services written in Ruby, have built our own version of Resque, and heavily use things like Redis and Elasticsearch.

We are looking for a seasoned Infrastructure Engineer with a strong background in building internal tools to join our team and help us build tools and features that will support scaling our already great app.

Company Macbook Pro and $1,000: We'll send you a company issued contemporary Macbook Pro as well as $1,000 sign-on bonus as a welcome to Files.com.
Tight-Knit Fun-Loving Team: You will be joining a fun-loving team that works together very closely, despite the remote work environment.
100% Remote Opportunity
The Files.com Engineering team is 100% remote. However, we travel for regular in-person meetings with the team and the entire company to meet and work together face to face. These meetings are in cities around the US, including Scottsdale, Austin, Orlando, New Orleans, San Diego, Las Vegas, and New York City.
In-person events combine work and fun and are designed to make up for the in-person interaction that occurs in an office job.
About the Role
As an Infrastructure Engineer at Files.com, you will take the lead on helping build internal tools and cutting edge features into the Files.com product that drive value for the 4,000 businesses that use our platform. Our API receives hundreds of requests per second and is used by both internal and external developers. This unique role will require comfort building prototypes. The role also requires the ability to dig deep into an issue to understand the root cause.
A key differentiator between this role and other infrastructure engineer positions is that we are looking for engineers that want to build solutions and tools rather than maintain our current toolset.
On Call Rotation: This role requires On Call Rotation for routine challenges. Examples of typical alert are server issues such as a disk being full or overloaded. We do offer PTO reimbursement greater than the time spent on these issues if this occurs. Critical platform incidents are handled by a separate team. Individuals may in the future be called in to participate in incidents.
Here are some examples of projects that our Developers have recently completed or are actively working on:
Terraforming our ~10k line-per-second log management system
Connecting an on-premise datacenter to AWS using Direct Connect
Performance run-off between redis, keydb, and others
Acquiring IPv4 address space and bringing it online
Building custom tooling for deploying go apps from CI
Custom VPN Manager built on wireguard
Building automation around terraform or chef
Additionally, you'll contribute to our ongoing projects for improving security, monitoring, and performance.
