About the role
Great Question is hiring Full Stack Rails Engineers to join us on our mission to democratize user research and help customer centric companies talk to more customers.
We are an enterprise grade, all in one research CRM - with the tools you need to run and analyze customer interviews, surveys, and prototype tests with either your own customers or external candidates.
With a place for all your research results, we offer ways to create, store and share interesting insights from your data. We are actively building interesting AI use-cases in this area - automatically analysing and synthesis your data with LLMs.

We are looking for exceptional individuals in Australia, with significant experience building Ruby on Rails applications, to come and raise the bar within our engineering and product organization and help us not just ship features but expand our platform, processes and culture as we continue to grow and scale.

This is a remote role open to anyone able to work within Australia.

THE OPPORTUNITY
We’re actively hiring for a product engineer - someone who can own an entire feature or product area end to end - from specification, to delivery, QA, customer feedback etc.

What you will do:
  • Work directly with design and product to deliver end to end user experiences
  • Grow to own large product areas.
  • Build strong customer empathy through understanding customer feedback and product usage
  • Sense of good UX and design sensibilities
  • Follow and improve best practices across the SDLC
  • Review PRs, Pairing and Technical Designs.
  • Establish, promote and refine usability heuristics

As a member of our engineering team, you'll be crucial asset in our journey.
  • Ship interesting features directly to end users frequently with just the right amount of bureaucracy. (We deploy several times a day, main goes to production)
  • High amounts of autonomy, ownership and impact.
  • Drive key technology and architectural designs across the entire platform and product.
  • Grow with the company - with plenty of opportunity to dive deep technically or move into management. Be intimately involved in business and product decisions.
  • Learn from experienced startup founders (10 years experience, 2 previous exits)

ABOUT YOU
Experience
  • 5+ years experience in web application software development
  • Ruby on Rails experience (Strongly preferred)
  • Comfortable with frontend (React/Typescript)
  • English proficiency
  • Experience working on applications at some scale.

Aptitude:
  • Highly autonomous. You can ship features end to end and self manage timelines.
  • Strong sense for quality, usability, and prioritizing impact.
  • High conviction. When you're in, you're all in. You take pride in work and are passionate about delivering your best work
  • Customer centric. You care about the customer experience and build empathy before delivering.
  • Well developed practices with unit testing, pairing, QA, and security.
  • Bonus points for: Enterprise SaaS, Research industry experience, Founder experience.

We have a fairly quick interview process.

  • See if it's a shared fit, and move to technical review
  1. Technical interview
  • 90 minute pair programming session writing some basic code
  • Goal is to understand your skillset with rails/react and thought processes in writing quality code
  1. Cultural interview
  • 2x 60 minute interviews
  • One with another member of the engineering team so you can understand what it's like to work here
  • One with someone non-technical (typically designer) to discuss collaboration outside of engineering
