Job Description
Risk Engineering works to protect Square and our customers from financial and reputational harm. We build systems to detect and respond to potential threats, provide Risk controls over the Square platform feature set, and give our sellers seamless experiences to navigate through risk. Our mission is to protect Square, protect our customers, and make a complicated and sometimes painful process understandable to all.
Risk Engineering is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help us build solutions that further these goals. You will collaborate with teams across the company on new product and market launches to protect from harm and make realtime data available for scalable ML-based risk decisioning. Help us solve these challenging problems and protect our sellers!
You Will:
- Work with teams and roles across Square to develop new capabilities and enhance existing systems to provide risk controls
- Develop essential tooling to act quickly on potential fraud
- Design fault-tolerant systems so the team can be brave, move fast, and break things, without ever showing a negative impact to customers
- Advocate and model engineering best practices Guide other engineers
Qualifications
You Have:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience Interest in working full-stack across multiple technical domains
- Experience building products end to end - technical design, implementation, testing, launch, and maintenance
- Metrics-oriented mindset: you want your work to be measurable and impactful Comfortable working with a globally distributed team of engineers, data scientists, product managers, and risk experts
- Technologies we use and teach: Java, Guice, Amazon Web Services Go, Ruby on Rails, Ember, React, GraphQL Protocol Buffers MySQL, Hibernate, jOOQ
