Why do we need you? Well, we are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager who has a strong background in people management, technical execution, and the ability to help grow our organization. You will work directly with the Head of Engineering for our Platform Services group, and will be focused on building foundational tools for engineering to create a best-in-class scheduling experience that empowers our users to host better meetings.
A day in the life of a Senior Engineering Manager, IAM at Calendly
As a Senior Engineering Manager at Calendly, you have the chance to mentor and grow some of the best and brightest engineers in the world. In this role, you will be overseeing the evolution of Calendly’s architecture from a monolithic codebase into high availability services. This role will also be working on building out the foundational APIs and capabilities that enable our entire engineering team to innovate quickly. This means working closely with product focused engineering teams to understand their needs, and also deep diving into our data services to discover new capabilities and insights that provide value to our users.

On a typical day, you will be working on:
- Hiring engineers to build out both new and existing squads for the company, with oversight on all team members that get hired onto the squad
- Bringing technical expertise related to platform authentication, authorization, access control, security, and networking
- Solving problems that enable the entire engineering organization to move faster
- Coaching, mentoring, and onboarding new engineering team members
- Ensuring the career development, satisfaction, and productivity of the engineers on your team
- Identifying future technical needs and creating plans to meet them
- Providing feedback and guidance to help us continuously grow and scale
What do we need from you?
- 5+ years experience leading a team
- 10+ years of overall development experience (Ruby on Rails, Javascript, or strongly typed languages preferred)
- Domain experience in Identity and Access Management (IAM)
- Excellent understanding of authentication, authorization, role-based access, least privilege and segregation of duties access control concepts
- Deep proficiency with web application development and building scalable architecture
- Ability to be a hands on contributor when need be
- Experience planning and leading development efforts on large projects
- Previous experience leading and mentoring teams and driving them toward big goals with consistent execution
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to succinctly explain deep technical concepts
- Experience leading Agile/Scrum ceremonies
- Previous experience working within a balanced engineering and product team
- Experience with MVC frameworks for backend development
- Authorized to work lawfully in the United States of America as Calendly does not engage in immigration sponsorship at this time

The ranges listed below are the expected annual base salary for this role, subject to change.
Calendly takes a number of factors into consideration when determining an employee’s starting salary, including relevant experience, relevant skills sets, interview performance, location/metropolitan area, and internal pay equity.
Base salary is just one component of Calendly’s total rewards package. All full-time (30 hours/week) employees are also eligible for our Quarterly Corporate Bonus program (or Sales incentive), equity awards, and competitive benefits.
Calendly uses the zip code of an employee’s remote work location, or the onsite building location if hybrid, to determine which metropolitan pay range we use. Current geographic zones are as follows:
- Tier 1: San Francisco, CA, San Jose, CA, New York City, NY
- Tier 2: Chicago, IL, Austin, TX, Denver, CO, Boston, MA, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, PA, Portland, OR, Seattle, WA, Miami, FL, and all other cities in CA.
- Tier 3: All other locations not in Tier 1 or Tier 2
