Software Engineer - Collaboration

Figma is growing our team of passionate people on a mission to make design accessible to all. Born on the Web, Figma helps entire product teams brainstorm, create, test, and ship better designs, together. From great products to long-lasting companies, we believe that nothing great is made alone—come make with us!

Collaboration is at the heart of Figma. Our mission is to make design more accessible to everyone, and these teams focus on enabling collaborative use cases within design, whether that’s internal for teams and organizations using Figma, or externally with the global designer community. As a full-stack engineer on one of these teams, you work closely to the user—you’ll collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, research, and data to understand user needs; architect and build features; and ship and launch your end product. We build core features for Figma’s collaborative workflows and the Figma Community.

Figma is a highly collaborative organization and most projects are owned by small teams of 2-3 people. You’ll form strong relationships with product managers and designers, and can expect to partner regularly with engineers and leaders beyond your immediate team. We strive to foster an inclusive culture that promotes equity and belonging, and use the following values to guide how we work together: communicate early and often, lift your team, focus on craftsmanship, and prioritize impact. You can learn more about our engineering values and how we developed them here.

This is a full time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the United States.

What you’ll do at Figma:
  • Collaborate with designers, PMs, and other engineers to plan features and build a high quality product that enable people of all backgrounds to engage with the design process.
  • Improve Figma’s performance and reliability by building new features or polishing existing parts of the product.
  • Be a mentor and provide thoughtful feedback to your peers, and benefit from strong personal and professional mentorship opportunity yourself.
  • Build strong personal connections with your teammates and help shape Figma’s culture.

Some projects you could work on:
  • Version control and review workflows for design files with full support for branching, conflict resolution, and comments to enable large organizations to collaborate effectively.
  • A redesign of the Figma File Browser, to enable teams to organize, share, and find their most important files across their whole organization.
  • A zero-to-one initiative building the Figma Community product from the ground up to create a space for designers to gather and discover the Internet’s best design resources.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:
  • At least 3+ years working as a professional software engineer.
  • Familiarity with modern full-stack web technologies and standard methodologies. We work in Typescript, React, and Redux on the frontend and Ruby/Sinatra on the backend.
  • If you don’t have explicit experience with these languages, that's okay - we will ramp you in our codebase during onboarding.
  • Proactive communication skills and a desire to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Enjoy learning from others and digging into new challenges.
  • An inclusive and collaborative attitude towards building features, solving problems, and growing teams.

At Figma, one of our values is Grow as you go. We believe in hiring smart, curious people who are excited to learn and develop their skills. If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with the points outlined in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.

We will work to ensure individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment. Please let your recruiter know if you require accommodation.
