The Fieldwork team 
The Fieldwork team works to ensure we source the right consumers to answer our surveys and contribute towards our research. The team constructs projects and communicates the project requirements to 3rd party providers through direct API integrations. The team is continuously working towards innovative ways to better optimise our project management processes through automation. They also provide tools and services to support our internal functions.
In order to achieve their goals, each team works in close partnership with our design and research functions and leans on learnings from customer’s experiences. Each team consists of Javascript and Ruby developers working with React talking to Rails API services via REST. You will work closely with other engineering teams, building systems which can describe, manage and execute audiences in a scalable and meaningful way. You will work in an engineering function that practises continuous integration and deploys to production multiple times per day on autoscaling Kubernetes cluster running on AWS.
Who we’re hiring
  • You will need to be able to demonstrate the characteristics of an experienced engineer (this is generally more than 2 years experience)
  • You are able to demonstrate how you add value to a team as an intermediate engineer, and what you expect from a high performing team
  • You have transferable technical experience. We don’t require deep expertise in our tech stack if you can demonstrate your ability to learn new technologies
  • You have the right to work in the location advertised or in any of our supported remote working countries


What do the first 30,60,90 days look like? 
In your first 30 days you’ll take part in our Zappi 101 engineering onboarding where you’ll get familiar with our business and engineering domains, you’ll meet your buddy, team and manager, and work towards your first code change. Over the next 60 days you’ll have established a pattern of impactful contributions to our codebases, execute a collaborative code/system design, begin influencing the direction of the team and contributing to team ceremonies (e.g planning).

  • Salary range R660,000-R1,044,000 per annum + equity and bonus. Salaries are benchmarked annually.
  • Unlimited holidays – we want well rested and motivated teams so encourage people to take plenty of time off. We don’t cap your allowance but do set a minimum of at least 20 days per year plus national holidays.
